The color red evokes dominance, power and attention. Red clothing will definitely make you stand out from the rest of the crowd and will mark you with sexual energy. Red is a commanding color that should be worn once in a while, for those times when you really want to make a statement and be different. Did you know red cars are popular target for thieves?
In fashion, designer best known for making spectacular red dresses is Valentino Garavani. In his first collection, there appeared what would become his signature: a dress the color of poppies, later known as "Valentino red".
For centuries, red lips have largely been seen as a stamp of immorality. In more God-fearing medieval times, it was believed that creating a plump, sexualised mouth would earn you a fast-track ticket to hell. Several hundred years later, Parliament passed a law condemning lipstick, considering it a sign of witchcraft. It wasn’t until the Golden Age of Hollywood, with its Technicolor films and glamorous studio portraits, that red lipstick came to be considered widely acceptable – even aspirational. Consider Jean Harlow’s pointed red pout in the 1930s, Veronica Lake’s in the 1940s and Marilyn’s in the 1950s.
Red is often associated with passion, sexuality, sophistication, drama, excitement and charisma. Remember the scene from Pretty Woman, where Julia Roberts dressed in a sexy red dress is given a ruby and diamond neklace? Or the scene from American Beauty where red rose petals rain down on a naked Mena Suvari?

For years, we’ve assumed that when a man looks at a woman’s face, his gaze lingers on her eyes. But studies show different. Mouth is the real eye-catching part of the face. Scientists at Manchester University used eye-tracking software to show that in the ten seconds after meeting a lady for the first time, the average man will spend more than half that time looking at her mouth. Red lipstick may require confidence to wear, but confidence can be a result of putting on red lipstick, no one needs to know which comes first.
